Position Summary

Title: Human Resources Manager

Location: Toronto, Ontario

Term: Full-time

Reporting to the CFO, the HR Manager is responsible for the oversight and implementation of company wide human resource initiatives as well as coordinating HR activities with all Jones Brown offices (Toronto, Hamilton, Calgary, and Vancouver). By working closely with the Leadership team and branch HR representatives, the HR Manager ensures HR practices support business objectives and goals. Duties & Responsibilities

  • Exemplify Jones Brown’s HR standards and champion our desired corporate culture
  • Accountable for leading and executing all Jones Brown HR practices and initiatives including, but not limited to, recruitment and onboarding, training and development, performance management, compensation and benefits, organizational development, and workforce  planning
  • Proactively engage with senior leaders to further develop relationships and to build and implement initiatives that meet Jones Brown’s HR goals and business objectives
  • Ensure an open line of communication and trusted relationship with branch HR representatives
  • Centralize all HR processes and initiatives at head office and work with branch HR representatives to ensure company-wide consistency
  • Provide counsel and advice to employees and managers to ensure appropriate steps are taken with respect to all employee relations issues
  • Work with management to resolve any employee conflicts
  • Provide leadership and guidance, oversee workload and workflow of HR Administrator
  • Based in downtown Toronto with occasional travel to Hamilton, and potential travel to Calgary and Vancouver
  • Other duties as assigned

  • This position has one direct report: HR Administrator (vacant as of April 3, 2017)
  • Internal contacts: all staff nationally, in-house legal counsel
  • External contacts include: benefits providers, HR outsourcing firm

Qualifications & Skills

  • 5+ years work experience in Human Resources Management with a broad range of accountabilities in operational, strategic and people leadership areas
  • A University degree in Human resources, Business Administration or other relevant program
  • Human resources certification (e.g. CPHR) an asset
  • Insurance industry experience an asset
  • Proven ability to partner with senior leadership to develop and deliver HR programs and initiatives
  • Demonstrated ability to handle complex personnel topics impacting employees including performance management, compensation and corporate change management
  • Team player with strong interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate, share ideas and form strong relationships with personnel at all levels within the company
  • Strong written and oral business communications skills
  • Highly professional, trustworthy, loyal and committed to a high level of integrity with a strong focus on service excellence and quality
  • Self-starter with a high degree of initiative and possesses an entrepreneurial spirit with a ‘roll up your sleeves’ attitude
  • Highly organized with strong attention to detail
  • Energetic, proactive, and highly engaged with the aptitude to deal with ambiguous and multiple priorities
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word, and working knowledge of ADP WFN is desired
